There’s something I wanted to do for a very long time. The idea of somebody jumping
trough a fire explosion took hold of me…
While walking trough our quarter with my girlfriend, I found this awesome dirt park in
between buildings. As I found out afterwards, this dirt park is from the NT DIRT collective
http://www.ntdirt.ch/, which builds these parks from scratch. Lots of rider also work
voluntary to keep the park in good shape.
As I am planning to get into movies more serious, I knew right away, that this is not only
the place for my first “movie”, but also to fulfill my long awaited wish.
I told the guys about my idea and they let me film their jumps, rides and some scenes
besides the tracks. After some time, I also found my “stuntman”! 🙂 As the tracks can’t
be used several days after the rain and the weather was getting worse pretty fast, I had
to hurry up with the explosion scene…
To keep the risk as low as possible, I decided to use electric triggered lycopodium
powder. This powder is only flammable when atomized and therefore relatively harmless.
After I got everything I needed, I had to test the explosion first with myself. Not only to
know what to expect, but also to better understand it’s characteristic and be able to get
the right moment to trigger.
The next day already, it got serious. It wasn’t just me and the driver, also other people
wanted to see the jump. I knew I had only three attempts to get the shot and each of of
them would cost around 70 USD.
I was full of adrenaline, everything was set up and the driver ready. The jump was
perfect but unfortunately, it was a misfire.
Long story short, at the second jump I got what I needed 🙂 I decided not to challenge
luck further and saved the third explosion for another project…
Thanks again everybody for being part of my first “movie”.
